Hidden away, right at the top of Kloof Street lies a slice of Italian heaven. The aroma of mozzarella lathered wood-fired pizza’s flows into the streets, with locals gathering from all corners of Cape Town.

Authenticity is an understatement at this eatery, with the colour scheme, atmosphere and team of staff making you feel like you have escaped to the Italian country side. Bacini’s directly translated from Italian means ‘baby kisses’ and when chatting with the manager you soon realise the passion and love for food this family-run business has. Owner Raimondo and his wife have grown the business into what it is today, a renowned establishment, with a loyal customer base who have been joining them for dinner for nearly 20 years.

First opening their doors on Kloof Street in 1995, it is quite an unusual feature on the ever changing road. With large families, hipsters, tourists and pensioners alike, they definitely do not have a specific target, anyone is welcomed with a warm embrace. At Bacini’s you can choose from a variety of Italian meals and to keep with their authentic experience, just about everything is homemade from their pastas to pizzas. They are not shy on portion sizes, which are perfect for a couples to share on a romantic date.

You cannot go wrong with any one of their pizza options, with the bacon, feta and avo option being their most popular pizza. For something more adventurous, try their Bacini’s special which has mushrooms, ham, pineapple, green peppers, asparagus, olives, onion and salami – it’s definitely not for the faint hearted. Their wine list is just as impressive, with many affordable wines all perfectly paired with their pizzas.

On a Sunday night, the place is packed with people enjoying their meals on the fairy lit balcony on a hot summer night. If you would like to catch a game of soccer or rugby, they also have a festive bar area with inexpensive drinks on offer and a great atmosphere.

Once you are finished, and are happily satisfied with your meal, you are likely to be sent off with a hand shake and firendly good bye from one of the managers or owner, all of whom thrive off of seeing happy customers exiting their doors.
