Liquorice & Lime Gourmet Café

Hidden away right at the top of Kloof Street, on the corner of Bellevue Street, awaits a classic New York styled café. Black and white floors, wooden chairs, pops of green and the aroma of freshly roasted coffee define the authentic personality of Liquorice and Lime. A similar passion and personality is shared by that of owner, Dylan Pritchard, who opened Liquorice and Lime in the same establishment he once enjoyed breakfasts.

IMG_1782 (2)The hostess extended a warm welcome, however my attention was immediately caught by the table featuring an array of freshly baked bread and desserts. I sat at a big window looking straight at the peak of Table Mountain. There are not many places in town where you can admire this view embraced by such a cosy setting.

While sipping my creamy coffee mocha, I sat next to a father spending some quality time with his daughter both taking bites out of the delicious home-made cake accompanied by whipped cream and strawberries. Getting carried away by the atmosphere, I forget about my diet and decided to order the same thing. The hostess that greeted me on arrival admitted that this was also her favourite choice. The café was close to feeling just  like home.

Famous for their eggs benedict, this café has been serving up delicious food to Orange-Kloof residents for almost 10 years without giving up on its authenticity and attention to quality. It’s one of the preferred breakfast spots for mothers that have dropped their children off at school and it offers a wide variety of options including light salads, gourmet sandwiches and oven-fresh quiches and pies. The café meets everyone’s taste, from children to business clientele, from breakfast to late afternoon.

Entering Liquorice and Lime is like entering a tea room from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s – just with brighter colours, right on our doorstep and giving a New York cheesecake a run for its money.

Commenting on being in the OKCID area, Dylan says “CID initiatives are fundamental for the Orange Kloof area: not only for their increased safety achievements but especially for the contribution and support they show to the entire community.”
