By far the busiest spot on Park Road, it’s easy to be carried away by the festive vibes at The Fat Cactus Mexican restaurant. Peeking over the outdoor tables, gazing at refreshing margarita jugs and mouth-watering nachos plates all are convincing factors to choose this restaurant as the pick for the night.
Welcomed by a friendly hostess, I was invited to have a drink at the bar while my table was prepared. Without a second of hesitation I ordered a frozen lime margarita, and watching the drink being made by the bar tender was a colourful show in itself. The cheerful ambience is set with vibrant paintings hanging on cream and red walls, all framed by miniature flags hanging from the ceiling.
Sipping on my refreshing margarita, I went through the entire menu with the same enthusiasm as a kid opening Christmas presents. Serving a wide range of Mexican food, including my favourite, the baked cheese enchilada, and a wide choice of fajitas I knew this was going to be a delicious and rather spicy experience.
When our table was ready, we took a seat at the table in the corner on a brown old-school couch. The wooden table, the red lights and the laughs all made me feel as though I had landed on the other side of the world, in a traditional restaurant in Mexico City – I was waiting for a vaquero to enter through the doors. Ordering a second round of margaritas and an extra portion of fries, our scrumptious dinner arrived in a flash and still warm from the kitchen.
I enjoyed everything about my night at The Fat Cactus from the authentic environment, the kind staff to the great drinks and scrumptious food – plus an affordable bill. Definitely one to add to your list!
