Seated on their outdoor patio on an unusually hot autumn day, I realised that Maggie’s Café is definitely the best spot on Somerset Road to enjoy an ice cold fresh orange juice. They opened just over two months ago and are already the go-to spot to relax after a day in the office. As the talk of the town, Maggie’s Café is on every blog and social media feed in Cape Town and obviously we had to try it out for ourselves.
Owner and chef Riaan Burger named the restaurant after his beloved dog Maggie and created a space that is relaxing, rustic and inviting for customers to enjoy. The café is the first dog friendly restaurant in the Mother City, with delicious doggy treats to choose from! Their doggie menu features anything from doggy chips to dry sausage to a peanut butter lolly and biltong – all at R28.
Their service is also top notch – on my visit to this quirky restaurant I was greeted by their incredibly helpful manager Robbie and seated by one of the attentive waiters called Humphrey.
The Maggie’s menu is extensive, so I’d suggest starting your morning off with one of their wholesome omelettes or gourmet eggs benedict paired with a preserved juice. Pop in for lunch during your office break and enjoy a smoked salmon bagel and cappuccino. Then for the finale end your night off with a romantic dinner for two and try their decadent slow braised pork belly paired with one of their fine wines.
Riaan and his partner Cailin Daniels really hit the nail of the head with their delicious café styled dishes and they can’t wait attract dog lovers, young locals and families through their doors.
*Items on their menu range between R28 – R87. Maggie’s Café can also be hired out for functions and events so give them a call to arrange a menu for the event. 021 433 1442.
