Soak up the sunshine on their balcony while tucking into a gourmet pizza and looking over Napier Street. ALFORNO, which means ‘baked’ in Italian, serves up delicious oven baked pizzas and authentic Italian meals. They opened their doors at the beginning of March and the restaurant has been a hit amongst local and international foodies ever since.
Situated opposite Piano Bar outside the Cape Quarter shopping centre, the restaurant is in the prime location to people watch and experience life in the Mother City. A café that masters breakfast, lunch and supper is a rare find in Cape Town, and this restaurant has managed to do just this. Owner Dom Rivet wanted to create a menu that was simple and delicious. He is a firm believer that it’s always better to do a few authentic Italian dishes really well instead of over 50 you can’t put your heart into.
Join them for their R40 breakfast special with a free cup of freshly ground coffee, or for a cold drink and mini pizza for R50 for lunch. A firm favourite and something Dom takes pride in serving is the Parma pizza topped with tomato, mozzarella, Parma, rocket and grana. For those wanting a healthier option, enjoy their scrumptious Insalata Mia with roasted seeds, peppadews, greens and tomatoes. To accompany your meal, take a pick from their extensive wine list, from the Constantia wine route to wine flown in from Italy – all of which are paired perfectly with a pizza.
And why De Waterkant? Dom insists that the atmosphere and friendly locals attracted him to set up shop in the area, and he is loving watching them streaming in.
On a Thursday night the restaurant transforms itself into a romantic dinner setting with live acoustic music playing in the background. Follow their Facebook page to find who will be playing each week.
Now all that’s left is to make a booking and enjoy. Bon Apetit!
