When a community works together in the interests of all residents and businesses, the improvements in safety and wellbeing are easy to identify.
With that in mind, October 2016 saw only 10 incidents opposed to the 25 that took place in September 2016. The most common of these being theft out of homes or business and motor vehicle accidents in the past month. On 15 October, a known suspect was arrested in Green Point for theft of seven laptops and two bottles of liquor. The joint effort between GP/OKCID, SAPS and Cape Quarter security was seamless and efficient.
There were several clean-up operations planned and executed successfully over the course of the month and the GP/OKCID team has begun preparing thoroughly for the festive season. Contrary to popular opinion, crime doesn’t skyrocket during December and January specifically. However, the public are also encouraged to prepare for the holidays by remembering three simple guidelines:
- Always be vigilant when walking on the street – travel in groups.
- Avoid sparsely populated or poorly-lit areas if traveling alone – stick to main roads if possible.
- Never leave valuables in your car – take your belongings with you.
