Cape Townโs silly season is in full swing and the city is starting to buzz. Tourists are streaming in, locals are knocking off work, schools have closed and there is a certain electricity in the air.
In light of the heightened amount of activity in the Mother City, the good news is that November 2016 saw only 24 incidents across the Oranje-Kloof and Green Point areas. The greatest proportion of incidents concerned general theft, theft from vehicles and removal of vagrants.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has provided a thorough list of crime safety tips for the public this festive season. From carrying cash in a safe way to being aware of your surroundings in a vehicle, you can find that information here. Several arrests were made this month; the most significant was of both suspects following an attack on a tourist on Kloof Nek Road.
Ongoing clean-up operations continued over the course of November. In particular, Kloof Street has benefitted greatly from the extensive ongoing maintenance. When asked about the state of the OKCID area and the surge of tourism, Mike Reeler, OKCID manager, was reassuring that the area was safe and prepared: โWe always ensure that incidents are reported. Street lighting is dealt with promptly and itโs fair to say that we are getting things done in reasonable time.โ
We are committed to keeping the city safe to the best of our ability, with the help of a competent and driven team. Call us any time to report suspicious activity, and make sure you have the numbers below saved in your phone.
