December washed over us with a surge of excitement and tourists. Fortunately, the wave of crime that many anticipate did not break. We only encountered 46 incidents over the course of the month, of which 25 were specifically crime related. A proud moment for the security team was when an arrest was made in Park Road. The suspect attempted to get away with R5 000 in cash but was apprehended. Well done to all GP/OKCID and SAPS members involved.
The biggest issue faced in the Green Point and Oranje-Kloof areas is still theft out of motor vehicles. It cannot be stressed enough: do not leave any valuables in your vehicle. It’s not enough to simply put your bags in the boot or hide items under the seat. Theft in this instance is completely preventable if value things aren’t left in the vehicle.
Marius Swanepoel, our GP/OKCID security manager said, “We did very well over the festive season. We had extra staff and everyone worked together to keep crime at a minimum.” It’s easy for incidents to take place in a crowded city. This sentiment is reassuring in light of the fact that Cape Town welcomes in a myriad of people from across the globe.
From the beginning of February, GP/OKCID officers will resume their regular stationing, along with Law Enforcement and SAPS. As a security conglomerate, we’re excited about what the year ahead holds in terms of taking care of the Mother City.
To each person who helped us over the festive season – whether by alerting us to suspicious activity, thanking us for a job well done or simply doing your part for the city too, we want to thank you and wish you a wonderful 2017. Remember that we’re here for you around the clock, so make sure you have our emergency numbers saved in your phone in case you ever need us.
