The Cityโs Transport and Urban Development Authority (TDA), will commence with road works on Klipfontein Road (M18), between Milner Road and Sawkins Road in Rondebosch. The works will affect mostly residents and road users in Heideveld, Surrey Estate, Athlone, Sybrand Park, Mowbray and surrounding areas.
Construction work on Kilpfontein Road is due to commence shortly. Work is planned to take place over the following weekends (Saturdays and Sundays):
- 14 and 15 April 2018
- 21 and 22 April 2018
- 5 and 6 May 2018
The City has made access arrangements for residents living in the enclosed working area between Milner and Sawkins Roads, including Robor Crescent in Mowbray. On the weekend of 21 and 22 April 2018, residents will be allowed to park their vehicles in the secured Sport, Recreation and Amenities parking area located in Sawkins Road from Friday at 18:00 until Sunday at 18:00.
We will provide a golf cart shuttle service for the residents moving in and out of the working area.
Should work be postponed due to unfavourable weather conditions on any of the above-mentioned weekends, the work will be shifted to the following weekend.
The road works are scheduled to be carried out from 07:00 on Saturday mornings until 18:00 on Sunday evenings.
โI advise residents and commuters who make use of this stretch of road that traffic on both the westbound and eastbound carriageways will be affected and half-width road closures will be implemented during the construction period,โ said Councillor Siyabulela Mamkeli, the Cityโs Mayoral Committee Member for Area Central.
Traffic on the westbound lanes, towards Liesbeek Parkway, will be detoured around the Rondebosch Common via Milner Road, Park Road, Campground Road and Sawkins Road back to Klipfontein Road.
Traffic on the eastbound lanes, towards Athlone, will be accommodated on Klipfontein Road.
The traffic detour will be in place throughout these weekends.
โRoad constructions always come with a level of inconvenience and we are doing our best to minimise this inconvenience. I would like to urge residents and commuters to be patient during the construction period and exercise extra caution when driving around the area,โ said Councillor Mamkeli.
