GP/OKCID security report – November 2019

There was an overall increase in crime, parking violations and traffic accidents in November. Alongside these incidents, we also got involved in planned operations with the SAPS as well as coordinated emergency and medical assistance to those in need. With the festive season in full swing, this is to be expected, and we urge you to stay vigilant and take a proactive approach to crime prevention.

Cape Town is a beautiful city to spend the holidays, and we do our best to make Green Point and Oranje-Kloof the best possible suburbs to live, work, and play. That said, we encourage you to follow our following safety tips to ensure your safety this festive season:

  1. Don’t flaunt your valuables
  2. Walk in groups when possible, and stay in well-lit areas
  3. Never leave anything visible in your car
  4. Double check your car is locked before walking away
  5. Check your doors are locked and windows are shut before going out

On a happier note, we’re extremely proud of our Police Sector Managers Constables Motsi and Teixeira, who were awarded Sector Managers of the Year at the annual awards held mid-November.

Constable Teixeira, when asked about the difference that the CIDs have made over the past year, said: “The CIDs contribution in the Green Point and Oranje-Kloof areas have been tremendous. They’ve been helping us a lot with cleaning up areas that need it most, as well as helping with arrests for motor vehicle and robbery theft. They’ve been a huge help to us over this past year, so I want to say a big thank you to them.”

Constable Motsi, when asked about how he feels about the award after a year of hard work, said: “Getting this award has helped me grow and gives me hope in this industry, because I’m still young and learning. It makes me want to work hard and get more awards! The arrest that we made recently with the help of GP/ OKCID security has helped build confidence in myself and the rest of the team. The guidance and support from senior colleague Constable Teixeira has helped me so much, he’s like my brother – so thank you.”
