GP/OKCID security report – December 2019

There was an overall increase in crime across all categories in December; however, with festive season reaching its peak, this was expected.  Alongside these incidents, we were involved in planned operations with the SAPS as well as coordinated emergency and medical assistance to those in need.

In December alone, our law enforcement officers (LEOs) issued 680 fines to the value of R888 000 and made a total of 25 arrests; an increase of 56,3% compared to November. We want to thank our LEOs for their hard work over this extremely taxing period, specifically for achieving a total of 6 arrests relating to armed robbery.

On Tuesday 24th December, we received a call from number 38 Kensington Place Guest House about a male suspect stealing a cell phone (worth over R7 000) and a wallet. Our LEOs caught him at a 7/11 on Kloof Street and took him to the guest house to witness the footage that was made showing his actions. We called a SAPS sergeant and the suspect was arrested. Well done to the SAPS, and our LEOs for a great arrest and the returned goods!

Although the chaos of December is over, Cape Town is still in its peak season, and we urge you to be aware of your surroundings and not carry valuables in full visibility. Never leave anything on your seat or cubby hole in your vehicle (go so far as to leave your cubby hole open to show that there’s nothing inside).

Remember to keep our 24 patrol vehicle numbers on hand for assistance:

Chris Boje, the  owner of Van Hunks in Kloof Street, shares: “The Oranje-Kloof area is, literally and figuratively, paving the way forward. Apart from the safety factor, the GP/OKCID has really focused on beautifying the area – I believe they both feed off one another.”
