Valentine’s Day is only one day away! Luckily, we’re spoilt with an abundance of restaurants in Oranje-Kloof. Unluckily, that can lead to decision paralysis, especially with the added pressure of planning the perfect date. That’s why we’ve rounded up our four top picks for something special but not over the top, whatever your vibe.
For a ‘bougie’ dinner: Kloof Street House
If you want to treat your loved one to an upmarket dinner without feeling too stiff and posh, try out Kloof Street House. They set the mood with soft, romantic lighting and plush soft furnishings. Their eclectic vibe feels luxurious but accessible, so you can spoil your loved one without feeling stuffy!
This spot is sure to be busy, so make sure you book a table in advance!
Where to find them: 30 Kloof St, Gardens, Cape Town, 8005

For an eclectic dinner: Bombay Bicycle Club
Bombay Bicycle Club is number one for a vibey atmosphere. Pick this spot if you’re seeking something a little different, and a lot laid back! There’s plenty to explore and discuss, but no frills or silver service. Their food is great, and their cocktails are even better! Why not try out their Cranberry Long Island in this bohemian love den surrounded by colourful Madame Zingara props.
Where to find them: 158 Kloof St, Gardens, Cape Town, 8001

For a trendy, Asian-inspired dinner: Asoka
Asoka does Asian fusion tapas, need we say more?
This hip restaurant is the perfect romantic spot. With delicious dishes to share, it’s ideal for a foodie partner or a couple who love to graze together. It’s full of intimate nooks, endless candles, and the iconic central tree wrapped in fairy lights. We can’t decide which we love more, their desserts or their cocktails, so we suggest leaving the car at home and ordering both!

For a retro movie experience: Labia Theatre
Nothing beats a classic dinner and movie date, even on Valentine’s Day.
In Oranje-Kloof we’re fortunate to have the best movie theatre in town, so make the most of it this Valentine’s. We recommend a quick meal at Tiger’s Milk or New York Pizza slice, and then walking over to The Labia Theatre (and back in time!) for a romantic flick. We guarantee you’ll feel like you’re in a bygone era, except now you can spike your slushy with gin or vodka. We recommend buying your movie tickets in advance and arriving 15 minutes before the movie starts for good seats!

Whatever you do this Valentine’s day, remember to tell those close to you how much you care, and enjoy the area we all love safely.
