Diets are not for the faint hearted, however in this case a diet has never tasted so good. The Banting diet has become the new craze, taking over cook books, television shows and now a restaurant. Tim Noakes is synonymous with this diet that involves eating low or no carbs and loads of high fats and protein.
The Banting Kitchen in Green Point has taken this diet to the next level. It’s been crowned the world’s first low-carb, high-fat restaurant. For those that can never truly stick to a diet that usually involves eating very little, this restaurant is the perfect alternative. It boasts an impressive menu, including a list of gourmet decadent desserts as well as many of the best South African wines.
Gazing down at the delicious array of meals on offer it was only mandatory to have a three course meal to fully establish a consensus about the restaurant. The first selection was Salt and Pepper Calamari and Salmon starters. The calamari was crispy, non-oily and covered in the perfect batter, and the salmon was tender, juicy and not too filling.
For mains the obvious choice and trophy Banting meal was fillet steak accompanied with a roasted butternut salad. To finish off entire meal we opted for a chocolate trio truffle. No part of the meal seemed healthy, but every plate at the table was polished off. The taste and style of plating emphasized the care and precision the chef took in preparing each and every dish.
The restaurant has clearly done their research, ensuring that everything is Banting appropriate. The food was absolutely amazing and there was nothing to fault. So if you are sick and tired of snacking on celery sticks and nuts, take a night out to indulge and devour one of their meals.
