There was an increase in the number of vagrants in both Green Point and Oranje-Kloof last month, with three incidences where vagrants had to be forcibly removed. There are several hot spots for criminal activity in our areas and regular joint operations with SAPS are conducted to address this each month.
There has also been an increase in the number of injured vagrants on the streets. If you witness violence, or see a person that has been injured, please call our operations managers on 071 670 3019/ 072 944 6811 – our operations managers. They will then get hold of the relevant ambulance service.
Unfortunately the number of car break ins continues to increase in both Green Point and Oranje-Kloof. Our GP/OKCID officers try to maintain a visible presence at all times, and urge everyone to remember to take absolutely all of their belongings out of their cars to avoid break ins.
There were four car accidents reported in our areas during March, which is less than previous months. Please remember to keep an eye out for pedestrians and stick to speed limits.
Here is a summary of incidences reported:
A vehicle was broken in to on 21 March on the corner of Jarvis and De Smit Streets and a bag was stolen out of the car. Our GPCID officers apprehended the suspect and he was taken to Central SAPS to be arrested by Constable Lind.
A Mini Cooper’s window was smashed on the corner of Kloof and Wilkinson Streets on 22 March,and a hand bag was stolen from the seat. The suspect was caught with the assistance of the CCID security. We managed to return the bag to the owner, and the suspect was arrested by Constable Mangena.
A car hijacking took place on 24 March on Highfield Road, where a lady was harassed by a suspect who then fled the scene in her car. Our GPCID reported the crime to SAPS and Constable Van Rensburg was on the scene to open a case with the assistance of an ER24 ambulance.
A suspect attempted to break into a car on Hout Street on 9 March. CCID witnessed the attempt and our GPCID officers were on the scene to apprehend the suspect. Constable Lottering and Booi arrested to suspect.
A scooter was stolen by two suspects on Waterkant Street on 28 March. Our GPCID officers chased the suspects and managed to catch one of them while the other drove off. SAPS Constable Mabharwana was called to the scene to arrest the suspect.
