Many Green Point residents and working people will be familiar with the Green Point Cricket Club (GPCC), tucked away behind the stadium, which boasts beautiful grounds for evening running clubs, cricket nets and plays host to awesome events, such as Parklife recently – where Modest Mouse played the Cape Town leg of their world tour. However, what many don’t know is that there is a new gym in the clubhouse, Genesis Personal Fitness, currently in its second month of operation. A hidden gem, if you will.
The gym is owned and operated by Shaun, who after finishing his schooling in Zimbabwe studied Human Science Movement (otherwise known as Bio Kinetics) in Florida, USA. The gym is small and intimate, housed in what was previously a squash court at the GPCC clubhouse, and although it is certainly no Virgin Active, this could be argued as one of the strengths of the centre. It may not have the fancy, overpriced equipment that you’ll find at big gyms, but it has all the necessities, and beautiful outdoor grounds to boot. Furthermore, the smaller nature of the gym makes it ideal for one-on-one training sessions with Shaun, or small group sessions, which is what Genesis is all about. You will receive no judgement or discerning looks from the boets in the weight section, or the gym bunny babes in their boxercise class. The friendly, close vibe allows you to knuckle down and focus on what you’re there for. Genesis also offers weight loss clinics and sport-specific training and programs.
Just in time for summer, Shaun will also be starting a three-month boot camp in the first week of October. The boot camp includes three training sessions per week, a nutrition guideline booklet and a free assessment and fitness evaluation prior to starting. What’s more is that the two most improved students will receive free weight loss and/ or gym supplements to the value of R1 000! The boot camp will cost you R500 per month for the three months, or R1 200 if you pay up front (saving you R 300). Sign-ups have already started, and space is running out, so if you’re interested you best contact him soon!
Given that Genesis hasn’t been at the GPCC very long, they’re also offering discounts on one-on-one training.
