OKCID 24/7 emergency number: 082 217 1386

According to our September statistics, the crime rate has decreased slightly with 17 reported incidents last month and 19 reported incidences the previous month.  With the assistance of SAPS, residents and neighbourhood watches we were able to arrest 14 suspects in both areas, as part of our vision to keep Green Point and Oranje-Kloof safe for residents and business owners.

The warm weather has finally settled in, which means trips to your neighbouring public park or beach become a regular activity. Because of this we ask you to lock up your homes properly and make sure to park in well-lit busy areas. We also strongly urge you to follow basic safety measures as well and be sure to carry pepper spray with you while walking or hiking around Cape Town.

If you ever feel unsafe, please call one of our GP/OKCID operations managers on 071 670 3019/ 072 944 6811. Our team offers 24/7 assistance to residents, tourists and business in the area, ensuring your safety.

Here’s a summary of incidents reported last month:

On 4 September the Granny Goose store on Somerset Road was broken into. The suspects broke the front glass door and stole 14 duvet inners, each valued at over R8 000. Our GPCID officers as well as SAPS Constable Maart, Sargent Adams, Constable Pommer and Sargent Bussy were on the scene to view the security footage, however the suspects could not be profiled from this. If you have any further information about this incident please call – 071 670 3019/ 072 944 6811.

On 26 September on Hudson Street, a Loading Bay shop window was broken. Two white Chevrolet bakkies parked in front of the shop window and six suspects got out their vehicles and broke the glass window with a crowbar. The Loading Bay security guard called our GPCID officers as well as SAPS, and we managed to apprehend one suspect. The rest of the suspects fled the scene in their vehicles with their stolen goods. A case has been opened and any further information about the incident can still be reported to SAPS.

On 28 September in Green Point, between Napier and Somerset Road, just outside the Cape Quarter parking, a suspect was spotted breaking into the boot of a black BMW and removing a sports bag. Our GPCID officers witnessed the crime moments after it happened and apprehended the suspect. SAPS Constable Petersen was on the scene to arrest the suspect. The owner of the car was tracked down by our GPCID officers and his belongings were handed over to him.

On 14 September in Oranje-Kloof, our OKCID officers received a phone call from the Kloof Street Spar manager. The reported suspect was caught stealing various items from the store. We tracked down the suspect and apprehended him outside the Mc Donalds. SAPS Constable Titus and Constable Bezana were on the scene to arrest the suspect moments later.
