Cape Town has never been a city short on summer activities and spots to socialise. With perfect summer weather, and days spent out and about, comes a need for places to hang out with friends and enjoy refreshing cocktails while watching the sun go down. Here are our top six spots for sundowners in Cape Town this summer:

Located at the top of vibey Kloof Street, The Dark Horse is exactly as its name suggests – mysterious. With its moody lighting, a gallery wall that pays homage to the past, and a mouth-watering tapas menu, this eclectic spot, is perfect for date night. Two outdoor seating areas offer a selection of views that both locals and tourists can appreciate – one facing Kloof Street and the other a roof terrace with views of the city. As far as the menu goes, their Margarita is one of the best we’ve tasted, best paired with a portion of Cajun potato skins.
One of only a handful of wine bars in Cape Town, Publik is a crowd favourite. It’s a small, trendy, “hole-in-the-wall” sort of spot, that you’d likely walk right past if you didn’t know about it. And, you guessed, they’re best known for their selection of top tier wine. The people of Publik like to keep things interesting, so their wine menu is ever-changing and consists mostly of small-scale wine producers who favour a natural approach to their craft. Whether you’re just visiting Cape Town or plan to hang around for a while, you’d best put Publik on your list of must-try spots.

Just up from Publik, you’ll find The Moveable Feast — the newest member of the Yours Truly family. Regular hosts of live music and DJ’s, The Moveable Feast aims to merge laidback energy with luxury and taste. Get there early to score a spot on the wrap-around enclosed balcony where you can watch the street life beneath you, and enjoy a fun night of good food and dancing.
4. Utopia
Recently awarded Best Rooftop Restaurant in Africa by the World Culinary Awards, Utopia is certainly well worth a visit (or two). Located on the 15th floor of the hotel, treat yourself to cocktails and snacks whilst soaking up the final rays of a summer’s day over uninterrupted views. For something fancier, their tasting menu with paired wines is as good as it gets.
5. Willaston Bar at The Silo Hotel
Part of the Royal Portfolio, the Willaston Bar at The Silo Hotel is possibly the most opulent cocktail experience in the Mother City. With breath-taking views of beautiful Table Mountain, the Willaston is a bar to write home about. Relax with a carefully crafted cocktail and take in the natural wonder that is Cape Town. Just be sure to call ahead, as non-Silo guests are required to book.

A hidden gem in the heart of De Waterkant, Café Manhattan is a trendy little spot located behind the Cape Quarter, and another spot you’ll miss if you didn’t already know about it. Among its locals, Café Manhattan is an iconic meeting, eating and socialising spot perfect for a quick bite, or enjoying an after-work cocktail out on the terrace in the summer evening. Plus, they have some great 2 for 1 drink specials every day of the week!
Whether you’re looking to experience cocktails as you’ve never had them before or a new summer hangout spot, Cape Town has something for everyone. Have you shared sundowners somewhere not listed in our top six? Give us your recommendations on Facebook or Twitter.
